A mini-split going into Gallia County is not being placed in a quiet corner of Ohio. 88 severe weather events were recorded in Gallia County, Ohio between 2015 and 2024. At that rate, severe weather is part of the background load every system in this county works against, and a contractor sizing a unit here has to treat that load as a given. Capacity, placement, and installation quality all carry more weight when the equipment faces that kind of sustained demand from the start.

Unfinished basement or crawl space with exposed wooden floor joists, insulated flexible and metal ductwork, a concrete block wall, a coiled black corrugated pipe, and two cardboard boxes on a concrete floor.

Electrical panels in a house built for the demands of that era were sized around the loads of that era. Half the homes in Gallia County, Ohio were built in 1981 or earlier (2020-2024 ACS 5-year). A licensed contractor installing a mini-split here will measure what the existing service actually delivers before anything else, because a panel that was adequate then may not carry a modern ductless unit without an upgrade. The ductwork question is simpler on a mini-split job than on a forced-air replacement, since the system runs without ducts, but the electrical question is the one that sets the scope.

The Parts of a Mini-split System and What HVAC Installation Involves

Isometric illustration of a cutaway house with two rooms, showing two wall-mounted indoor air conditioning units connected by lines to a single outdoor condenser unit outside the building.

The indoor air handler mounts high on a wall inside the room being conditioned. It draws room air across its coil and pushes treated air back out. The outdoor condenser unit sits on the ground or on a bracket outside the house, housing the compressor and the coil that faces the exterior.

A set of refrigerant lines runs through a small hole in the wall to connect the two units, carrying refrigerant between them. A condensate drain line also exits the indoor unit, routing the moisture it pulls from the air to the outside. A dedicated electrical circuit feeds the outdoor unit directly.

The drawing beside this text shows how those pieces relate to one another in a typical installation, and a licensed contractor determines exactly how they apply to your home.
